What is 5S?

5S is a structured approach to getting a workplace organized and standardized. The name of the methodology is based on 5 words in Japanese that all start with ‘s’: Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke. These can be translated as sort, systematize, shine, standardize, and sustain.
